Walking Holidays: Grisons Hiking Trail
Walking Holidays Davos – Arosa - Lenzerheide
Spend your walking holidays in Switzerland: Discover the beauty and hidden treasures of Eastern Switzerland. Together with Sunstar Hotels, Switzerland Travel Centre invites you to explore the mountain trails and valleys of the fascinating canton of Grisons. Whether it is the rushing force of a mountain brook, the delicate alpine flora, the glistening mountain peaks or lush green pastures you are looking for, you will find it all on this exciting trip. Start in Davos and walk to Arosa and onto Lenzerheide, staying in the high quality Sunstar hotels in each resort. The duration is for 7 nights with days of leisure in each of the resorts to give you time of relax and enjoy the facilities at you hotel or to take on of the shorter walks or hikes available in each resort.
| Day 1: | Arrival Flight or rail from the UK to Switzerland and 2nd class rail transfer to Davos. Overnight in Davos. |
| Day 2 & 3: | Hike as you please Two free days. Spend some time exploring the mountain resort of Davos and it’s surrounding valleys and mountains, which offer walking and hiking opportunities for all levels. The Davos guest card will allow you to travel for free on all mountain railways. If you are interested in alpine flora why not visit the Alpine Garden at Schatzalp with 10,000 species of plants. Alternatively take advantage of your Swiss Card and travel by train further a field, e.g. on the Bernina Express to Tirano (Italy). For a rainy day we recommend trying the wellness facilities of your hotel (supplement payable). The wellness oasis at the Sunstar Park in Davos was only opened in December 2005 and offers numerous treatments and facilities. |
| Day 4: | Hiking Davos to Arosa Today’s hike will take you to Arosa. Walk or take the Parsenn cable car to ‘Panoramaweg’ and walk along this breathtaking mountain path until you reach the Strelapass at 2,350m / 7,700feet. From here follow the steep path down to Sapün and on past the restaurant ‘Heimli’ to Chüpfen at 1,763m / 5,784feet. On a level foot path you follow the stream ‘Sapün’ until ‘Langwies’ from where you can catch the tain to Arosa (payable locally) or continue on foot on to Unterseen and Arosa centre. | Day 5: | Hike as you please Free day in Arosa. Explore the charming village of Arosa or take one of the many walks shown in the maps and guidebooks provided. The Arosa guest card will give you free access to the cable cars and gondolas as well as various discounts in the resort. There are also two lakes in Arosa great for boating and swimming on a hot day. Alternatively take advantage of your Swiss Card and take the train down to Chur, on of Switzerland’s oldest cities with a delightful old town. For a rainy day we recommend trying the wellness facilities of your hotel (supplement payable). The wellness oasis at the Sunstar in Arosa offers numerous treatments and facilities. |
| Day 6: | Hiking Arosa to Lenzerheide Walk or take the cable car to Hörnli at 2,513m / 8,240ft. From here you begin your downhill walk, passing the Urdentälis (valley). Then follow a steep trail uphill to the Urdenfürggli at 2,546m / 8,353ft from where you can enjoy a fantastic panorama. Continue with a first of all steep than more even descent via Motta to Scharmoin – the middle station of the Rothorn cable car. If you have time why not take the cable car from here to the top of Rothorn at 2,866m / 9402ft for unforgettable views. From Scharmoin descent through forests down to Lenzerheide. | Day 7: | Hike as you please Free day. Enjoy the facilities at your hotel, the pure nature around you, or be active and go on one of the various walking paths in the area. Overnight in Lenzerheide. |
| Day 8: | Departure Transfer to Zürich for your return flight or rail to the UK. |
Accommodation
All hotels are 4 star, centrally located and offer an extensive buffet breakfast in the morning and 4 course dinner with choice in the evenings. Free use of swimming pool and steam bath is included in all 3 hotels. The hotels in Arosa and Davos have additionally a wellness oasis offering various spa and beauty treatments, the supplements for which are payable locally.
