Location: Lugano, Ticino
Lugano is the cultural centre of the Ticino region and well worth a visit. Spread along the crescent-shaped bay of Lake Lugano and flanked to the east and south by Monté Bré and Monté Salvatore, it offers a variety of choices to visitors. There are quiet walks along the attractive lakeside promenade or through the historic city centre, where you can visit one of the traditional markets. Take an excursion into the surrounding area by boat, mountain railways, chairlift, cog-train or cable car. There is also plenty of swimming, windsurfing, water-skiing, golf and tennis available. Due to its mild, almost Mediterranean climate, life does not stop at dusk in Lugano. The cafés and restaurants around the main square, Piazza Riforma, are busy until late at night.
