Only Flying is better - Flyer Trail through the Bernese Oberland

Discover the nice side of cycling in the mountains. Enjoy the charming scenery all around Spiez on Lake Thun, discover the picturesque Kander- and upper Simmen valleys  and climb heights of over 1,387m – and all this with only half the effort needed than on customary bikes – thanks to the so called ‘Flyers’ (electro bikes). The route is well chosen with loading or recharging stations along the route and a reserve batterie is provided for each user - just in case.

Programme

Day 1: Arrival
Flight or rail from the UK to Switzerland .Train transfer to Spiez. Depending on your flight times you might have time to explore this picturesque resort on Lake Thun or visit Spiez castle. Overnight in Spiez.
Day 2: Day excursion to Thun
Your eclectric flyer bikes, directions and maps are all deposited at your hotel.Today you will familiarise yourselves with your bikes and explore the countryside around Lake Thun. On the mainly flat circular route you cycle past beautiful farmsteads and along 5 pretty lakes. Distance: 44 kilometers / 27 miles. Time: 2h30. Overnight in Spiez.
Day 3: Day excursion into the Diemtigtal
Today's circular route takes you to  the wildly romantic Diemtigtal valley. The Diemtigtal is an idyllic, 16-km long side valley of the Simmental Valley, which is noted for its natural beauty. There are many offers, which are compatible with sustainable tourism, all of them ideal for families and vacationers in search of rest and relaxation. Lush pastures and the unique spectacle of the diverse stages of Alpine vegetation unfold before your eyes. Distance: 40 kilometers / 25 miles. Time: 3h. Overnight in Spiez.
Day 4: Spiez-Frutigen-Adelboden
The route starts with an easy cycling path following the rushing river Kander towards Frutigen. From here you enter the Engstligen valley on your way towards Adelboden. On your way you will use the cable railway Engstligenbahn which will offer you fantastic views of the whole valley all the way to Frutigen. Distance: 32 kilometers / 20 miles. Time: 2h30. Overnight in Adelboden.
Day 5:

Adelboden-Lenk-Zweisimmen
A relatively easy and scenic way over the Hahnenmoos pass into the upper Simmenvalley. Drive past the resort of Lenk and on  to the picturesque village of Zweisimmen. From here you do a short excursion to the mountain hotel Sparenmoos where a rewarding snack plate and beautiful views from the terrace await you. 
Distance: 34 Kilometer / 21 miles. Time: 4h. Overnight in Zweisimmen.
Day 6: Day excursion to Lauenenseee
A slightly more strenous tour to lake Lauenensee at 1,383m / 4,537ft. Following a route over the Saanenmoeser pass into the region of Saanenland, past the famous resort of Gstaad you will finally reach the shores of Lake Lauenensee. Be rewarded with that seclusion and tranquility amid idyllic surroundings which are harder and harder to find even in the Alps. Distance: 60 kilometers / 37 miles. Time: 4h. Overnight in Zweisimmen.
Day 7: Zweisimmen - Stockhorn - Spiez
Easy mainly downward route along the river Simme past beautiful farmsteads you will enjoy the lovely and mellow countryside particular to this region. Excursion by gondola to the top of Stockhorn is included. Distance: 40 kilometers / 25 miles. Time: 2h. Overnight in Spiez. 
Day 8: Departure
Transfer to Zürich for your return flight or rail to the UK .

Accommodation
All hotels are small family-run, typically Swiss hotels with a warm welcome. All hotels used are of a 3 star standard and have private facilities. Spiez: Hotel Bellevue, Adelboden: Hotel Waldhaus-Huldi, Zweisimmen: Hotel Sonnegg.

Departures: Saturdays from 01 June to Mid - October 2009
